Police Warrant: DNA Evidence Links Suspect to Annie Le Killing

The just-released arrest warrant for Raymond Clark III includes details of evidence the New Haven Police gathered in their investigation into the killing of Yale graduate student Annie Le.

Police write that they have DNA evidence linking Clark to the homicide.

A white ankle sock which matched one found on the victim, contained a blood stain.  DNA tests on the blood matched both Clark and Le.

The sock was found hidden in a drop ceiling, along with a pair of blood-stained work boots with Ray-C written on the back of the boot.

Police also read through sign-in sheets at some of the lab rooms.  On the day of the killing, Clark used a green pen.  A green pen was found with Le's body.  Tests found DNA from both the victim, and her alleged attacker on the pen.

The first sign of foul play may have come on Septmber 10, two days after Le was reported missing.  A co-worker of Le, Rachel Roth, told a Yale Police officer that a box of wipe-alls had been found with what appeared to be blood spatter, in the last room where Le had logged in on the building security system.

Later DNA tests revealed the blood was Le's.

The officer stood guard over the potential evidence, and called the FBI to collect it.  While the officer was waiting, Clark allegedly came into the room and looked at the box of wipes, and moved the box so that the blood was out of sight.

The police officer said it seemed to be an attempt to block her view of the blood-spattered box of wipes.

The officer later came back into the room, and used SOS pads and cleaning solution to scrub the floor grate and drain, while the police officer was present.  Two police officers saw this, and they said it seemed odd, because the floor was clean.

Le worked in a research building at Yale.  Her body was found in the basement, after she had been missing for several days.
