The Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority says it considered 77 potential sites around the state for a new ash landfill to replace the Hartford landfill, which is preparing to close. They settled on a 350-acre parcel of land in Franklin, Connecticut, behind an old mushroom farm.
The trash agency says tests will be needed to confirm the site is indeed suitable, and regulatory approvals will be required. C-R-R-A President Thomas Kirk says pending regulatory approval, the landfill could be operational by 2011.
He says the landfill would mean a big boost in property tax revenue for Franklin. |
