BIG EAST MEDIA DAY
|
Newport- Well, Big East Media Day is over and that means another UConn sports season is about to begin. And it is good to be back and letting you inside our coverage of the Huskies.
It seemed like there were more media than ever covering this years event. UConn was represented by Randy Edsall, Tyler Lorenzen, D.J.Hernandez, Darius Butler and Cody Brown. These were four guys who enjoy each other's company and like nothing better than busting on one another. And it is a foursome who are anxious for the new season to begin.
Which is does with the first practice on Friday.
I wouldn't get too worked up about UConn being picked sixth in the pre season poll. Three media members for each conference team (I was one of the Connecticut threesome) comprise the voters. And there are still a lot of skeptics as far as the Huskies success is concerned. It's fun when it comes out and 24 hours after, it doesn't mean a thing.
Some quick shot observations.
New West Virginia Coach Bill Stewart is an absolute gem! He is so much the opposite personality wise of Rich Rodriguez. Not that Rodrgiuez is a bad guy, because he isn't...But after five or six questions with Stewart had me wanting to run out on the field. (Ok, walk out on the field)
South Florida coach Jim Leavitt normally isn't the chattiest indvidual. (Check out the brilliant Chip Malafronte's blog on the Register web site "Ramblings from the Runway" for a second opinion on Leavitt.) But today Leavitt, was great. As was Pitt coach Dave Wansteadt, who last year, only did a couple of interviews and left... And I learned that Cincy coach Brian Kelly used to work on Gary Hart's political campaign (If you are too young to know who Gary Hart is, ask someone).
The first practice is Friday, some info afterwards.
Stay with us all season. It should be interesting!! |
