Bid To Get Rid Of Bugs Results In New Haven Fire

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - New Haven fire officials say a man who tried to smoke out ants and beetles from his yard wound up smoking himself out instead by causing a house fire.
A fire captain says the man did a lot of damage to his own apartment on Whalley Avenue and some damage to a neighboring unit.
Officials said Sunday the man lit a little fire outside in the corner near the cellar area to get rid of the bugs and thought he had put it out. However, the fire ignited inside the wall and traveled.
The building has many apartment units, but the bug fighter is the only one who had to vacate because of damage.
