BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) - Bristol police are looking for the person who placed a suspicious device in a car that had been parked in a lot on Main Street, triggering a bomb scare.
Traffic was diverted off several busy streets for more than three hours Monday night and several stores were evacuated after a woman found the device in her car.
Police say the woman was returning to her car after shopping when she noticed the front driver's side door was open and saw a device with wires connected to a timer.
Authorities set up a four-block perimeter, shut down Brackett Park and evacuated an ice cream parlor, a discount store, CVS pharmacy and several other smaller businesses in the retail plaza.
The bomb squad from the Hartford Police Department destroyed the device at about 8:45 p.m.
Police say they don't yet have a suspect and the case is being handled by the criminal investigations division.
