Connecticut DEP Announces Fall Foliage Website

With the first official day of autumn arriving shortly, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Fall Foliage website is available at www.ct.gov/dep/foliage.

The website features a Fall Foliage report, updated on Mondays and Wednesdays, to reflect the different levels of color change in foliage throughout the state. The website also offers information on: Tips for Leaf Peepers, Scenic Views and Hiking Locations and biking on one of Connecticut’s Multi-use Trails. You can also learn about the colorful foliage along the Connecticut shoreline.

DEP’s top ten viewing areas are:
  • Cobble Mountain at Macedonia Brook State Park in Kent
  • Lookout Tower at Mohawk State Forest in Cornwall
  • Mt. Misery Overlook at Pachaug State Forests in Voluntown
  • Chaugnam Lookout in Peoples State Forest in Barkhamsted
  • Observation Tower at Shenipsit State Forest in Somers
  • Stone Tower at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden
  • Heublein Tower at Talcott Mountain State Park in Simsbury
  • Mt. Tom State Park in Litchfield
  • Dennis Hill State Park in Norwalk
  • Goodwin Conservation Center at Goodwin State Forest in Hampton.
“We had more than enough rain in late spring and early summer,” said Chris Martin, DEP Director of Forestry. “As a result there should be plenty of leaves on the trees to produce a vibrant and spectacular show for residents and visitors alike. The brilliant colors of Connecticut should entice leaf peepers to stay in Connecticut and explore all that our great state has to offer.”

Martin also said that some trees are already changing color and that he expects the peak week for viewing Mother Nature’s finery is expected to be around Columbus Day Weekend, especially in the hillier terrain where the vistas will take your breath away.
