DANBURY, Conn. (AP) _ A Danbury man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
A prosecutor says Efren Guallpa had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree sexual assault. The prosecutor says the sexual assaults occurred between May and October 2007 when Guallpa was living in the same home as the girl.
The prosecutor says that when the girl would get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or get something to drink, Guallpa would confront her and sexually assault her, often choking or strangling her to hold her down.
Guallpa was given 20 years probation.
The judge also said Tuesday Guallpa must register as a sex offender, not have any contact with the girl he assaulted, not live with minors or have any unsupervised conduct with minors.
