BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A federal judge in Bridgeport says he will rule in January on a constitutional challenge to Connecticut's recent campaign finance reforms.
The changes, adopted in 2005, are being criticized as biased against minor parties, lobbyists, state contractors and their spouses.
The challengers say it gives the Green Party and others less opportunity for campaign funding than major parties, and the lobbyists and others say it unfairly curtails their contributions.
Final arguments are expected in December. Both sides say they will appeal if they lose.
Connecticut lawmakers adopted the campaign reforms in response to scandals involving former Gov. John Rowland, former Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and other public officials.
