RIDGEFIELD, Conn. (AP) - State officials say police dive teams have found the body of a 54-year-old kayaker who went missing Monday at a state park pond in Ridgefield.
The Department of Environmental Protection says the man was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon after his body was pulled from Pierrepont Pond at Seth Low Pierrepont State Park. Officials are not releasing his name until after his family is notified.
Witnesses told authorities the man was splashing around in the pond and calling for help before he disappeared into the water Monday afternoon.
DEP police, state troopers and Ridgefield police couldn't find him Monday night. The search resumed Tuesday morning and they found the man's body at about 1:30 p.m.
DEP police are trying to determine what happened.
