EDD and other stuff

8/20 - 7:30pm - Well vacation is over with Football starting next Thursday and it was back to work for me today. 3:30am alarms aren't fun. Anyhow, while in the Nation's Capitol, I saw that Elena Della Donne's stay in Storrs lasted two days aaand she's not coming back. And today, Geno & UConn released her of her scholarship, granted if she plays sports, she plays at Delaware, where she's enrolled.
Between the beat writers stories over the weekend and other members of the media at football practice today, there were opinions all over the place. My take is that she has been hounded since 6th or 7th grade by schools and she's a combination of burned out and needs to be close with the family right now. And that's ok if that's the case. On a much smaller scale, I'm familiar with kids and burnout. Good Luck Elena, and don't worry Husky Fans, the Women's BB Team will be ok without her.
Now to my vacation. Vermont, DC and Baltimore in that order. #1- Barre, VT CC is a good golf course. Just not after it's rained 9 inches in July and early August. It was like playing a swamp it was so wet. BUT the greens were fabulous. I'd take another crack at that course in normal summer conditions up north. #2 - DC was good. Arlington National Cemetary is a soleum, yet very powerful place. And the view from the Lee House is breathtaking. National's Stadium is baseball's newest ballpark. Nice, but doesn't take ones breath away. The atmosphere isn't great either. But the Nationals at last check have lost 11 straight and are last in the NL East. On a Hoops note, the family had dinner with Rosie McLaren, Kaili's Mom. Jamacian Food galore with Beef Patties and Jerk Chicken to go with the Rice and kidney beans. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. The daughter is out west, for now as classes begin Monday. and #3, we were among the many Red Sox fans who saw them play in Baltimore Monday. And Camden Yards is everything it's cracked up to be.
I'd love to see the O's play someone other than the Sox or Yanks. Too much of a zoo when they play there. I bet half the crowd consisted of "The Nation."
Well, that's all for now from here. Hope you enjoyed your summer. See you on the radio from "The Rent" next Thursday as it all begins again for another season. |
