Exec in Newton Bribery Case Pays State Ethics Fine



The former director of a nonprofit jobs training organization has paid a thousand dollar civil penalty for giving money to a state senator in return for assistance in securing funding for his organization.  Warren Godbolt was director of Progressive Training Associates, Inc.,   based in Bridgeport.

This penalty under the Office of State Ethics is in addition to criminal penalties,  including three years probation,  six months home confinement and 300 hours of community service.

Former State Senator Ernest Newton was sentenced to a five year prison sentence for soliciting and accepting a brige in the case,   for failing to report the income on his federal tax return,  and for using campaign contributions for personal expenses.
