Well here we are, a week from the first broadcast of the season (Exhibition v St. Rose) and the Huskies as you may guess are hard at work preparing for another season. I spent roughly an hour and a half watching practice Tuesday and here are some of my first observations on the 09-10 Huskies. This will be another talented, hungry bunch prepared to repeat as Champs...We'll see.
Maya Moore continues improve. Geno wants her to get to the line more this season. And that means driving to the basket. Tina Charles needs to keep up the positive wave she's been on since the NCAA Tournament and Kalana Greene has seemingly gotten better from the perimeter. The Guard battle, if you wish to call it that seems to have Tiffany Hayes as the front runner. And works well with Caroline Doty in the backcourt. Lorin Dixon can't and won't grow 7 inches in the next year..But she has worked especially hard to prep for the season. And while she has worked on her outside shot, Lorin continues to struggle in practice with her shot. Kelly Faris is as good as Geno says she is..Quick, can shoot and has good basketball sense. There will be room in the rotation for her..
The one surprise would be Heather Buck. Surprised as she needs a lot of work. Lets say the head coach has gotten on her pretty quick. Perhaps the same way Geno got on Tina Charles the last three years. Was way down in the rotation after a sloppy practice. Geno was at a slow boil before Kelly Faris saved the day (see the Courant Story from Wednesday)
I'll have more as we get closer to the game next week....Hope to see you at the Rent for Football Saturday..10:30am..Stop by Gate C and say hi..
