Former Hartford Official Seeks Probation
|
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A former Hartford official arrested in a corruption probe of city government that also snared Mayor Eddie Perez is seeking probation.
Edward Lazu (LAH'-zoo) applied for accelerated rehabilitation Thursday in Hartford Superior Court. The program allows for charges to be erased from first-time offenders' records if they stay out of trouble during a probation period.
Lazu is the city's former contract compliance supervisor. Prosecutors say he got free driveway and sidewalk work at his home in Hartford by city contractor Carlos Costa, who is also charged in the case.
Lazu referred questions to his lawyer, Richard Brown, who did not immediately return a message Thursday.
Perez and Costa have pleaded not guilty to bribery allegations involving renovations at Perez's home.
