Foxwoods Dealers Ratify Historic Contract
|
Members of the United Auto Workers Union at Foxwoods Resort Casino and the MGM Grand at Foxwoods have ratified a new two-year contract. The labor pact, approved by a roughly 75% to 25% margin is the first union contract ratified under tribal law in the United States, said the union.
“We worked hard to get dealers a fair contract,” said Yan Mei Shi, a 6 ½ year dealer. “Dealers deserve job stability and fair treatment on the job, and this agreement is a great advancement.”
The contract calls for an average wage increase of 12% over two years, preserves benefits, and improves job safety and security, said the UAW.
More than 1,400 dealers cast ballots in Friday's vote. Roughly 2,500 employees were eligible to vote.
