GAME DAY IN CINCY
|
SATURDAY NOONISH (12:15pm)- Game Day in Cincinnati and the Huskies have finished their walk thru at the Bengals practice facility just across the street from Paul Brown Stadium. With an 8 pm kickoff, you know Randy Edsall and his staff wanted to get the players outside for a while.
Story on the front page of the Sports Section on the Bearcats is how Coach Brian Kelly has made himself a hot commodity in the college football coaching circles. He has been mentioned for jobs over the last two years and Bill Koch's story in the Enquirer speculates that he will be mentioned for numerous jobs again.. One thing that could work against UC keeping Kelly is the lack of funding for stadium renovation and practice fields.
Tonite, none of that matters and you know Cincinnati will try to make a national statement in the prime time showcase against UConn. Even if first string qb Tony Pike doesnt play, the offense doesn't miss a beat with Zach Collaros. He can throw and run and UConn cant sell out on pass defense or Collaros will make big plays with his feet.
Defensively, Cincy is steady, not spectacular
The key for UConn, don't turn it over. Cincinnati has a +13 in the turnover battle and the Huskies have been prone to giving the ball away. The great unknown obviously is Zack Frazier, does he play like he did in the 4th quarter against Rutgers of like the first 2 1/2 quarters...That could tell us a lot about tonite.
Pre game with Bob is 6:30...And dont forget men's hoops against UMass-Lowell tomorrow @ 12:30.
Enjoy your sports weekend.
