Getaway Driver In Robbery Spree Gets 12 Years

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - A Hartford man who was the getaway driver in a series of armed robberies in central Connecticut has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Thirty-two-year-old Hector Barreto was accused of helping a Farmington man in eight knifepoint robberies last year in Avon, Bristol, Farmington, Plainville and Southington.
Barreto had pleaded guilty to three counts of accessory to first-degree robbery in a series of robberies. Police say he worked with 24-year-old Joshua Ellis who used a knife to threaten employees into giving him cash from restaurants and gas stations.
Police say the men were robbing places to support their heroin habits.
Ellis was sentenced earlier this year to 22 years in prison.
