NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) _ A Ledyard woman serving eight months in prison for stealing from her employer has been given seven more months in jail after the discovery of more embezzlements.
The New London Superior court judge says Cynthia Cross held herself up as an outstanding citizen but was really ``nothing more than a common cheat or thief.''
The judge sentenced Cross on Monday to the additional prison time for embezzling more than $14,000 from the Gales Ferry Cemetery Association and more than $3,000 from the Ledyard High School Alumni Association.
Cross was serving an eight-month sentence for stealing $152,000 from the Water Pollution Control Authority when the other cases came to light.
