Judge Rules Jury Verdict Carries No Weight

MILFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Milford Superior Court judge has thrown out a jury's guilty verdict against a New Haven woman accused of sending a tainted paperweight to the president of the University of New Haven.
Forty-nine-year-old Anne Bradley was accused of sending the paperweight, made out of a smashed phone and four smashed cans, coated with a harmful substance.
The judge ruled Monday that a jury could not have reasonably convicted Bradley because there was not enough evidence the paperweight ever presented a hazard.
A lab report found the paperweight was coated only with a glue, but said it's not harmful to people.
Bradley was arrested two years ago after a package arrived at the office of UNH President Steven Kaplan, containing the paperweight, a poem and a personal letter.
