Laurie Fass alternates hosting "WTIC's Pet Talk" every other Saturday 2pm - 3pm.
Laurie operates The Dog Training and Counseling Service for behavior problems and basic training for puppies and dogs of all ages. She teaches group classes in the towns of West Hartford, Bloomfield, and Rocky Hill.
Laurie Fass has had a life long interest and love of in animals. She has been helping pet owners professionally since 1975. She’s had a variety of pets including dogs, cats, birds, and various rodents and reptiles. In 1972 Laurie was a tour guide at the Burnett Park Zoo in Syracuse N.Y. Her career as a dog trainer/ behaviorist began after acquiring a difficult problem dog of her own. Recognizing people’s need to work out similar problems Laurie completed a dog trainer apprentiship program at Captain Haggerty’s School for Dogs. Since that time Laurie has helped over 5,000 dogs and dog owners representing more than 140 different breeds. She taught a course for Syracuse University called ”Understanding Dogs”, wrote educational material for the Connecticut Humane Society for cat related issues, competed in AKC obedience trials attaining raking in the Delaney System, trained security dogs for Sage Allen Department Stores, acted as a consultant to lawyers and insurance companies in dog related cases, provided help and training advice for rescue organizations, and has been featured in The Hartford Courant, The New York Times, and has had numerous TV appearances. Laurie is a professional member of The International Association of Canine Professionals. She is also an official AKC Canine Good Citizenship evaluator, and conducts both classes and testing to attain this award. Presently, Laurie can be contacted at The Dog Training and Counseling Service for private appointments for behavior problems and basic training for puppies and dogs of all ages. She teaches group classes in the towns of West Hartford, Bloomfield, and Rocky Hill. She is also the sole distributor of Contain-A-Pet products (underground pet safety systems) for Hartford County west of the river.
