NAACP Seeks Federal Probe In Ansonia

ANSONIA, Conn. (AP) - The president of the Ansonia chapter of the NAACP wants federal officials to investigate the treatment of a black police officer accused of stealing a garden hose from the police department.
Officer Mustafa Salahuddin was arrested July 15 and is charged with sixth-degree larceny. He is on paid administrative leave.
Greg Johnson, president of the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, says he'll be asking the Department of Justice to launch a full investigation.
Salahuddin's attorney has said that the police officer was seen bringing a garden hose outside the Police Department's parking lot to wash his police cruiser.
The hose was missing for three days before it was found at the department.
