NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - A reputed member of a New Bedford gang has been found guilty of murdering another man following an argument.
Wayne Miranda was convicted on Wednesday of second-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm for shooting 25-year-old Christopher Barros in October 2005.
The Superior Court jury reached a verdict after eight hours of deliberations.
Prosecutors say the 29-year-old Miranda shot Barros after the victim had an argument with the defendant's brother.
Miranda, a reputed member of the Monte Park gang, maintained his innocence during the trial.
Miranda's grandmother testified that he was in her house working on a computer at the time of the shooting, while his lawyer claimed prosecution witnesses were unreliable.
