NORWICH, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. M. Jodi Rell says victims of the April 26 fire that destroyed a Norwich apartment complex can apply for low-interest federal loans.
The U.S. Small Business Administration agreed Thursday to offer loans of up to $40,000 to help tenants of the Peachtree apartments replace their belongings.
The 120-unit complex was destroyed in an April 26 fire that displaced more than 160 residents. Its cause remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
Fire alarms were working, but the 32-year-old complex did not have a sprinkler system and tenants lost most or all of their belongings.
Rell says the Small Business Administration is setting up a service center in Norwich to process the loan applications and answer the renters' questions.
