On the Road Again......

Wed 2/3 9pm: Approaching bedtime for the 3:20am alarm (great huh ??) And after doing some initial game prep for Brunch with the Huskies at Louisville Sunday, let's wrap last night's win over West Virginia. The Mountaineers played with the Huskies for 23 minutes or so before the dreaded run came. (dreaded for the opposition) And who started it ? Freshman Kelly Faris...her steal and 3 point play ignited the Huskies and the XL Center crowd, In fact during the decisive run, 4 and one possibilities for UConn as the lead went from 8 at the half to 33. Mike Carey knows how the other teams feel now.

Faris chipped in with 9pts and 4 assists and started the 2nd half in place of Caroline Doty, who went scoreless for the 1st time this season. In fact, she only took one shot. Here is a thought, seeing as Caroline hasn't played a full season of hoops since her Junior year of High School, logic says she has hit the wall. A big wall. And while she scrapped as usual last night, other parts of her game are being effected. Maybe her knee is a bit of an issue too, but with a 4 game in 9 day stretch a coming, no rest for the weary. And if you heard CD on the postgame, Kelly's confidence has shot up plenty the last few weeks and taking more shots than ever in practice.

So the Road Trip begins in Louisville Sunday (Last UConn Game at Freedom Hall), at DePaul Wednesday (on 96-5 FM), home to St. John's next Saturday in the Gampel Finale, then the 15th at Oklahoma. Lots of Marriott points ahead I guess. Speaking of which, for the first time since I began traveling in the 01/02 campagin. Snow stopped us from getting home. Kara decided to fly to Boston and got a ride home..Lucky Lady. But eventually things happen like this. Just ask Joe & Wayne and their trip to Seattle last season. It'll be tougher mentally more so than physically, but you get things like this every year and it's interesting to see how the players grow from it.
