THOMASTON, Conn. (AP) - Police in Connecticut say a 32-year-old woman has died after she fell onto a glass-topped coffee table and was fatally wounded by the broken glass in her Thomaston home.
The state medical examiner ruled Wednesday that multiple cutting injuries caused Erisa De Matteo's death. She died Tuesday at Waterbury Hospital after falling earlier in the day.
Police say they're not calling the death suspicious at this point, but they're still investigating how De Matteo broke the table, what caused the fall and whether anyone was with her at the time.
Police say the table she fell on may have been an older table with regular glass that can break into dangerous shards. They say most modern glass furniture is made with tempered glass that breaks into small pieces to avoid injuries.
