Record Number of State Business Closures in 3Q
|
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz says about 2,600 Connecticut businesses filed papers to dissolve from July to September, a record third-quarter number.
Bysiewicz said Wednesday that the quarterly total pushes total business closures this year through Sept. 30 to 9,545, a record for the first nine months of any year since the data was first recorded in 2000.
Third-quarter business failures dropped 25 percent from the second-quarter total.
Bysiewicz says there is some good news. More than 6,600 businesses incorporated in the third quarter, a 2 percent increase over last year's quarter. There were nearly 20,500 business startups in the first nine months of the year, about a 6 percent decline from the same period last year.
