Rell Unenthusiastic with Girls Center Alternate Sites

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell says a preliminary review shows six alternative sites suggested for a juvenile detention facility for girls likely aren't suitable for the treatment program.
But Rell says her administration is still looking at the Bridgeport properties recommended by the city's mayor and legislative delegation.
The State Bond Commission, which Rell chairs, was poised last month to approve $15 million to construct a 36,000-square-foot secure center for girls on Virginia Avenue in Bridgeport, a residential section. But the funding was delayed after a group of residents, legislators and city officials raised concerns about the project.
Rell said she was willing to wait a month to see if opponents could identify an alternative site in Bridgeport.
