Former New York City Mayor and former presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani speaks at a fundraiser for Connecticut fifth district Republican Congressional challenger David Cappiello.
Cappiello seems to differ with his keynote speaker, on a $700-billion financial bailout being considered by lawmakers in Washington.
Cappiello says he would have voted against the House version of the bill, because lawmakers failed to specify how they would pay for it, and failed to put enough safeguards in place.
But Giuliani says with modifications now being considered by the senate, he would support the measure.
Giuliani praised Cappiello as someone who knows how to solve problems, and who has been effective as a leader in Connecticut.
Cappiello is challenging Democratic Congressman Chris Murphy.
Murphy voted for the bailout proposal, which failed in the US House.
Some Waterbury Republicans are reportedly sitting out Cappiello's campaign, as a protest of Cappiello's criticism of city native and former Governor John Rowland during a federal corruption investigation.
Giuliani never mentioned the former governor by name.
But Giuliani seemed to refer to the episode by praising Cappiello for putting the state of Connecticut before party affiliation, and having the courage to point out things that were wong in his own party.
Cappiello's campaign refused to say how much money the fundraiser brought in.
