BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Health officials say an 82-year-old Bridgeport woman is recovering after being hospitalized for illness related to West Nile virus.
The woman became ill with an inflammation of the brain during the second week of August after she was bitten by a mosquito apparently carrying West Nile virus.
Bridgeport's health director says the woman is now recovering at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
The woman is the second person in Connecticut to become ill with the virus this summer. A Sherman resident was afflicted during the third week of June.
State health officials say the potentially deadly virus has been detected in mosquitoes trapped in 20 Connecticut communities this year.
The state monitors mosquitoes through a network of 91 trapping stations in 72 communities from June to October.
