Security Dye Explodes, Robber Changes Clothes for Second Holdup
|
New Britain police say they think a bank robber had to change clothes after a robbery shortly before noon at the Webster Bank on Main Street because they believe security dye packed with the money exploded as he was making his getaway. The same suspect is believed to have conducted a second robbery an hour and a half later, about half a mile away, at the TD Bank on Main Street. Witnesses told police they saw a red cloud around the suspect, leading investigators to believe the dye pack had been triggered.
Police say no one was injured in either holdup, and no weapon was shown.
The suspect is described as a thin white male in his forties or fifties. After the second robbery he was wearing a red jacket and black hat. He left the scene of the first in a pickup truck.
