HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ One person died and six others were injured when gunshots broke out near crowds that had gathered Saturday night after Hartford's annual West Indian pride parade, police said.
At least one young child was among those injured, police said late Saturday.
Police Chief Daryl Roberts said three suspects were in custody, but did not immediately release information on whether anyone had been charged.
Three guns also were recovered, he said.
Hartford police and Connecticut State Police troopers remained at the scene late Saturday in the city's North End, where the Greater Hartford West Indian parade and festival was occurring when the shootings were reported.
``All of a sudden, I heard shots fired and everybody started running and going crazy,'' Hartford resident Michelle Redding told WTIC-Fox 61.
The child who was shot was a girl who appeared to be about 3 years old, she said.
``The mom was holding her and she was going crazy,'' Redding said.
Roberts said investigators have not determined whether the victims and suspects all were attending the festival, but said it usually is a peaceful and family-oriented event.
The conditions of the injured people, their ages and other details were not immediately available late Saturday.
