A special education teacher at a New Britain school is accued of endangering three of the autistic students in her care. Police say 36-year-old Michelle Campbell taught a class of about ten special needs students in her care, kindergarten through second grade.
Police say a warrant was issued by New Britain Superior Court, charging her with seven felonies involving three of the children, ages five and seven. Campbell faces three counts of risk of injuiry to children and four of cruelty to persons in unspecified incidents last school year. The court ordered the warrants the case to be sealed.
Assistant School Superintendent Ron Jakubowski described Campbell as a veteran teacher with more than five years experience. He says the schools investigated at the time of "an incident" and took action to resolve the matter. He says a parent reported it to police, but says he cannot discuss personnel matters beyond that.
Campbell turned herself in and her bond was set at $5,000. She is due in court Oct 23. She is on paid administrative leave from her position in the school system.
