St. Francis Hospital Placed on Yearlong Probation
|
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut public health officials have placed St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center on probation for one year, citing various state violations.
The Hartford Courant reported Thursday that regulators cite the June death of a patient following the failure of a pump used for cardiopulmonary bypass during heart surgery.
The hospital temporarily suspended non-emergency cardiac surgeries.
Officials cited several problems with how the hospital handled the pump failure. They include putting it back into use within three or four days after it failed, without first having it examined by a clinical engineer and the manufacturer.
In a statement released Thursday, the hospital says it worked closely with the Department of Public Health to make improvements and has taken ``aggressive actions'' after it resumed cardiac surgeries.
