JEWETT CITY, Conn. (AP) - State police say they have a suspect in the theft of a fire engine that had been stolen from Jewett City.
The suspect was spotted a short distance from where the fire truck was recovered in Canterbury early Wednesday.
Someone had spotted the fire engine on Route 395 in Griswold and troopers began searching for the stolen fire truck.
The fire engine was found a short time later, undamaged behind a business in Canterbury, about 10 miles away from Jewett City.
State police say the suspect, who has not been charged, told them he took the $700,000 truck for a joy ride. The suspect has been taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich for an emergency medical evaluation.
