Student Newspaper Faces Harassment Claims
|
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Fairfield University officials are looking into harassment claims against the student newspaper after a satirical column sparked a protest on campus.
The Jesuit university's dean of students, Thomas Pellegrino, says The Fairfield Mirror's column on Oct. 1 also violated the paper's agreement to receive funding from the school, rendering the contract ``null and void.''
The column lampooned female students who agree to one-night stands and included some derogatory terms.
Pellegrino has asked editors to appear before a student conduct board for a review of harassment complaints by four students who were offended by the column.
The newspaper published an apology, and student editors promised changes to guard against divisive and offensive language.
