TRYING TO HOOK THE HORNS
|
SATURDAY AM- It seems hard to believe that the UConn men haven't played a #1 team since the 1999 NCAA Championship game (you remember, UConn 77-Duke 74). But that's the cold hard truth....Until today when Texas comes to Gampel. And the Longhorns will not be happy campers after losing on Monday night at Kansas State...Which makes this their last game as #1 for a while.
But don't think for a minute that they can't be #1 at the most important time, in April. They are deep and talented with two terrific front court players in Damian James and Dexter Pittman and a deep deep backcourt led by freshman Avery Bradley.
They will easily present UConn it's biggest and toughest test of the season.
Wednesday's win over St John's was a stepping stone for the Huskies. They played some of their best ball in recent weeks in the final 22 minutes of that game. But, as good as they played in that game, they will have to play 5x better today to beat Texas.
The guards must be smart, the big men must fight off the glass and Jerome Dyson and Stanley Robinson have to play like two of the best players in the Big East.. Can all that come true....Talk to me about 6:30 tonite.
I do know one thing, the atmosphere at Gampel will be electric. It is sooooo important for UConn to get off to a good start to intensify the crowd. It should be fun.
We don't have a pre game today, well actually we do. It's the best womens broadcast duo, Mr Joyce and Ms Wolters (hopefully with a better back) from Villanova. Their pre game starts at 1:30, Wayne and I take air @ 4.
And give me a call on Husky Talk after the post game.
Enjoy what should be a great afternoon of hoops on the 50,000 watt flame thrower!
