Use of the word "retard," in the movie Tropic Thunder prompted about forty people to gather outside a movie theater in Middletown to protest the comedy's treatment of people with disabilities.
Kirsten Saraceno is 15-years-old, and has Down Syndrome. She says the word is offensive and rude.
In the movie, Ben Stiller plays an actor who plays a disabled person. The people who made the film say the satire is aimed at actors, NOT at disabled people.
