WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN
|
Clearwater, FL. Ok, I am channeling one of the greatest songs by CCR (Credence Clearwater Revival) to describe the desperate straits we are in at the Big East Baseball Championship. This part of Florida hadn't seen rain for a month and now, they are making up for it all in a week. Unfortunately, it's the week that the conference baseball tournament came to Bright House Field.
There was one posponment on Tuesday, one postponment and a suspension on Wednesday and as I speak, there has been already one postponment today with the UConn-South Florida game currently in its fourth hour of a rain delay. They put the tarp on the field at 3:35 and by 4:10, it looked like a scene from the Wizard of Oz.
It hasn't rained in an hour and a half but other than taking the tarp off the field, and grooming the infield , there has been no activity. The UConn players have been netertaining them in front of their third base dugout and down the line since the rain stoped. The South Florida players just came out and started doing the same thing.
Here is the biggest lesson to learn from this, you can do anything you want to prepare for the tournament but the ultimate umpire is Mother Nature...
Okay, the two head coaches and the baseball committee are meeting right behind first base.
If and when the game is played, we'll have it on WTIC.com.
