Waiting Patiently & A Freshman All American

Still four and a half hours away from gametime as the last ticket to Tampa gets punched here in Greensboro. And how does one spend the day ? Sleep in a bit, late breakfast, a half hour on the tredmill (have lost 14lbs since Jan 1and a long way to go) then lunch & a bit of shopping. But lunch with a couple of colleagues. The first is Mike DiMauro of the New London Day. Mike is a fan of the Yanks & Giants (ok 1 of 2 ain't bad) But we share our love of listening to Chuck Kaiton. Anyhow, we've hung out the last few nights. But he should NEVER get directions off mapquest again. The Guappa Grille as we discovered afterwards much easier to get to that mapquest showed. Great meal with many of our print media friends last night. And PF Chengs with Miked and his New London Day partner Viki Fulkerson.
The other colleague today at lunch was ESPN's Doris Burke. She is absolutely the best in her profession and an even better person. We talked families (she has 2 kids Robby's age), the business and basketball of course. Just listening to her about the game, you can learn allot. She's bringing the family to Tampa (just hope we're going too). Then Mike & I took a walk over to the mall and you'll see the back side of a new blue dress shirt I purchased at Dillard's. I know it's radio, but we'll be top of the key - sideline across from the UConn Bench tonight..
The other news out today is Maya Moore being named AP First Team All American. Just the second freshman to be in that group. Join the familiar names Parker, Wiggins, Fowles and Paris (as in Courtney). I think she's going to play like one tonight. and I just can't get over the excitement Candice Wiggins showed last night as Stanford gets to the Final Four. It's refreshing to see and for a kid to work as hard as she has to get her team this far. Good for her and the Cardinal to be miffed they were a 2 seed and throttle Maryland in the Regional Final. And they'll play close attention to UConn-Rutgers. Winner plays Stanford Sunday and most likely means get ready for a late game Sunday either way. Ok, Four hours till' tip. Maybe a quick comment after the game. 3:30am will come real fast tomorrow to get home. |
