Would-Be Trooper Gets Prison For Sexual Assault

LITCHFIELD, Conn. (AP) - A Winsted man who confessed to molesting a girl while he was taking a lie detector test to be a state trooper has been sentenced to more than four years in prison.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jon Van Allen had told investigators a friend had told him that if he was honest about everything, he was most likely to pass the state police exam.
Van Allen, who was being interviewed as a possible state police recruit, admitted that he had fondled a young girl twice in 2000.
Litchfield Superior Court Judge Michael Sheldon says he found it bizarre that after Van Allen's ``moment of catharsis'' he still thought he could get the job.
Allen was working as a U.S. Marine Corps recruiter at the time of the incidents.
