The state Department of Transportation plans to use an unusual kind of truck emergency ramp coming down Avon Mountain, near the scene of a crash in which a flatbed smashed into a furniture store.
Acting Engineering Administrator James Norman says the ramp uses arrester cables to stop vehicles that pull off the road.
State officials discussed their plans with the Motor Transport Association of Connecticut.
Association member Bruce Deitch says there used to be a truck ramp in the same area, but it was removed in the late 1980's.
A state Department of Transportation official who described the project said he was NOT aware of a previous truck ramp.
Deitch says other work is also needed on Route 44 over Avon Mountain.
