Adoption: How to Get StartedA program "Adoption: How to Get Started" will be offered from 7 to 8 p.m., January 3, 2007, at Broders Bookstore at Waterford Commons. A social worker from Child Adoption Resource Association (CARA) will discuss making the decision to adopt, types of adoption and procedures, medical and financial considerations and answer any questions. Art Show Opening in Canton"Resolutions," a members and guest art show featuring works in all media, will be on exhibit from January 5 through February 4, 2007, at the Canton Artists' Guild, Gallery on the Green, off Route 44, Canton. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., January 6, 2007. Also showing will be Jerome Blanchard with pencil drawings of personal importance, portraits and places in the Upstairs Gallery and Lynn Grayson, "Fractions and Distractions," showing digitally manipulated photographry, altered scenes, bits and pieces, in the Spotlight Gallery. Cabaret Night and Silent AuctionThe second annual Cabaret Night and Silent Auction will be held at 7:30 p.m., January 5, 2007, at Wethersfield High School, 411 Wolcott Hill Road, Wethersfield. Admission is $10 at the door. The event will be hosted by WFSB's Scot Haney and talented current students and alumni will perform musical numbers from shows never before seen at WHS. A New York City theater weekend will be raffled along with other items. Proceeds benefit the Auditorium Renovation Fund. Sponsored by the WHS Drama Club.

E-Junk Drive in HebronAn E-Junk Collection will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., January 6, 2007, at RHAM High School, 85 Wall Street, Hebron. Bring old computers, televisions, keyboards, and any other electronic devices. Everything that is donated will be recycled. A small fee for some items may apply to help with the recycling process. The drive is sponsored by the Freshman Honors Science Class.
Three Kings Day Parade in Hartford. The Spanish-American Merchants Association sponsors a Three Kings Day Parade, leaving 95 Park Street at 10 a.m. and ending in the Pope Park Recreation Center.

Hartford Community King Day Observance - The Capitol Region Conference f Churches, The Connecticut Interdenominational Church Ushers, The Men of Coloir Initiative, the United Church Ushers of Hartford and the Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut will sponsor a community celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior from noon until 3 p.m. at the House of Restoration Church, 1655 Main Street, Hartford. Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond, pastor of Bethel AME Church in Boston.

Charter Oak will host a screening of Mozart and the Whale, 8pm. This movie, starring Josh Hartnett, is based on the real-life love story between two savants with Asperger’s Syndrome, a kind of autism, whose disabilities sabotage their budding relationship. Proceeds will benefit The Autism Society of Connecticut. Author Jerry Newport, the inspiration for Josh Hartnett’s character, will attend the screening, sign books and discuss the film. Royal Concert in Waterbury A Royal Concert with the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra will be held at 3 p.m., January 14, 2007, at Naugatuck Valley Community College Fine Arts Center in Waterbury. Tickents are $40, $30, $15 and $5 for students. The WSO will feature Handel's "Royal Fireworks Music" and Brahms' "Symphony No. 1." WSO oboist Olav Van Hezewijk will perform Bach's "Concerto for Oboe d'amore." King Day Observance -- The Connecticut Martin Luther King Junior Holiday Commission holds the official state ceremony to commemorate the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from 11 a.m. until noon at the State Capitol.
King Day Observance -- The Wadsworth Atheneum will be open, with free admission and King Day activities from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., including art-making, storybook-reading, a family tour, and two performances: the "Lift Every Voice and Sing Community Choir" at 1 p.m. and the "Saint Michael Gospel Choir" at 3 p.m.at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, 500 Main Street, Hartford.

The Capitol Region Emergency Planning Committee will provide free flue shots for any eligible person older than 18 who has not been vaccinated this season. Health care is this year's focus of The Capitol Region Conference of Churches King Day event.

Benefit Concert for Homeless Youth. 7:30 p.m. at Vernon Social Center, Trinity College, Hartford. Proceeds willgo toward the "Public Allies April Lunches" week to provide free lunch to Hartford students during school vacation. Performers include Hartford gospel group Trent Von’ Lee and Seventh Dispensation, the Ben Jencks Jazz Quintet, Steel Harmony from the Hartt School, and the salsa band Orquesta Fiebre.
January 27 Winter Ice Festival -- The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection will host a "Winter Ice Festival" at Black Rock State Park, Watertown, as the closing event of the fall/winter edition of the "Child Left Inside Great Park Pursuit." Winter outdoor activities will be offered from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., including ice skating, snow tubing, snow sculptures, snowshoe races, hiking, wildlife tracking, orienteering, ice fishing demonstrations, letterboxing, demonstrations on winter camping, cooking demonstrations and a large bonfire with a marshmallow roast. The Festival is free and there is no registration or sign-up. In case of a major snowstorm, the event will be postponed until Saturday, February 3, 2007.

Little Bighorn Archeology TalkDr. Douglas Scott, National Parks Service Ret., will speak on "New Archeological Perspectives on the Battle of Little Bighorn," at 2 p.m., January 27, 2007, at Smith Middle School, 216 Addison Road, Glastonbury.
