HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A Superior Court judge has sentenced four psychiatric patients to long prison terms for the killing of a teenage patient in Hartford last year after a game of Monopoly.
Police say 18-year-old Alexandria Clouse-Desmond was strangled and beaten on April 27, 2007, and her body was stuffed into a microwave box. Authorities say the suspects poured laundry detergent in the box to cover the smell and hid it in a closet.
Officials say all five people had mental health problems and were residing at an independent-living apartment. The four defendants pleaded guilty in January to aiding or encouraging manslaughter.
Judge David Gold in Hartford handed down 18-year prison sentences Friday to 19-year-old Darzell Weinstein and 22-year-old Michael Davis. He also imposed 12-year sentences on 20-year-old Leslie Caraballo and 19-year-old Tiara Dixon. All the defendants will serve five years probation after their release.
