A new bowl game is launching in the upcoming football season. The conference announced Wednesday that the NCAA has certified the "St. Petersburg Bowl" to be played at Tropicana Field, with Big East and Conference USA participants. The game would be played between December 20th and 23rd.
The new bowl opportunity comes in conjunction with another change. The Big East says the "PapaJohns.com Bowl" in Birmingham, Alabama, will now match a Big East School against a Southeastern Conference opponent. Previously Conference USA had been the other participant in that game. The 2008 PapaJohns.com Bowl will be played at Legion Field in Birmingham December 29.
Big East Commissioner Michael Tranghese says the "St. Petersburg Bowl" is a great opportunity for the conference. In his words,"our coaches are always excited to play a postseason game in the state of Florida."
