Connecticut Transit officials say bus ridership in the Hartford area was up more than 6 percent this May, when compared with last May.
That number is adjusted for the difference in the number of weekdays and holidays in each month. There are more bus travelers on weekdays, than on weekends or holidays.
CTTransit Assistant General Manager for Marketing and Planning Philip Fry says ever since hurricane Katrina, ridership has increased with spikes in gas prices.
Fry says drivers are seeing new faces on buses, and customer service representatives are getting more requests for information from people who have not ridden a bus in a long time, or never rode a bus before.
