2:45pm- 6/25 : Happy Summer one and all ! Since April, it's pretty much been baseball, baseball and more baseball between raindrops and holidays. And until vacation in August, the trend continues. Which I have no problem dealing with. Ok, I can live without the 8pm games in Groton when the Babe Ruth Districts begin next weekend.
Geno Auriemma, who just inked a new 5 year deal to stay in Storrs, has lost an assistant as Tonya Cardoza is off to Temple as Dawn Staley's replacement to become the Head Coach. Great job for Tonya who did a wonderful job coaching the guards over the years she spent in Storrs. She'll be hard to replace. But speculate if you will on who's next in the family tree to come here as an assistant. Shea Ralph, Carla Berube and Morgan Valley would be nice replacements for Tonya. Or does Jack Eisenman get a promotion ? We'll see on that sooner than later.
On Elena Delle Donne, see you in September. It's no big deal she took time off for herself as she won't get much in the next four years. She's not the only 18 year old to be homesick. But considering her profile, it's in the news. Too bad. As long as Geno keeps in touch (he has and will) she'll be fine.
Notice that Maya isn't playing ball on any National Team this Summer ? She's in Storrs at school and spending time with mom. It doesn't surprise me one bit. This kid is so grounded. Good for her. I saw Tahirah Williams this past weekend at the Travelers Championship. "T" is interning at Channel 8. Trust me, she'll be good at TV. Especially if you have her smile. That's why I have a face for Radio. And speaking of which, I heard Kara did color with Mike Gorman on the CT Sun game last night at the Casino. Good for her. I never got to see it.
Ok, gotta run. Baseball in Lebanon tonight. And over the next month, You'll hear me once or twice doing AM Sports for Scott. Like Monday and the week of the 14th. Joe D' too. Enjoy your summer...It'll be football season before we know it..
