A Connecticut priest WAS scheduled to begin servicing his sentence Tuesday July 7, but a judge has once again delayed the date the priest must report to prison. This time the delay is for a month.
Reverend Michael Fay pleaded guilty to stealing more than a million dollars from his Darien parishioners.
He told them their donations were going to worthy causes, but spent the money on himself instead.
Fay's lawyer says his client suffers from prostate cancer, and should NOT begin serving his sentence until he is treated with an experimental drug at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Prison officials say they need more information to determine if they can administer the drug while Fay is behind bars.
Prosecutors had argued that giving the priest another delay would only reward him for failing to deliver information about his medical condition.
Under an order from Fay must now give himself up to federal prison officials by noon on August 6, under the order from Judge Janet Bond Arterton.
