Working Families and Republican members of the Hartford City Council are trying to schedule an extra council meeting for next week, possibly Thursday, to try to find 200-thousand dollars to re-open two library branches.
Councilmember Veronica Airey-Wilson says some new library funds might be taken from money the council gives to community groups.
Council Minority Leader Larry Deutsch says the money might be taken from the city's contingency fund.
Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez rejected the council's first effort to give extra money to the library, saying the council failed to specify where the money would come from. Perez says it the council wants to spend more on the library, cuts must be made elsewhere, to balance the budget.
Perez says the library should already have enough money to keep the Blue Hills and Mark Twain Branches open.
