ALMOST GAME TIME
|
TORONTO- The festivities for the players are over except the big one, the International Bowl itself. Today, I was one of 750 indivuduals who listed to the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the keynote speaker of the Kickoff Luncheon. He was riveting and was able to draw parallels between sports and racial relations and the way our country has grown.
The luncheon also honored the members of the 1958 Buffalo team who refused to accept the school's first bowl bid to the Tangerine Bowl because their two African American teammates would not have been able to play in Orlando. It's a terrific story, and it makes this years game even more memorable for the Bulls.
Buffalo will have all the momenteum and 90% of the crowd on their side at Rogers Centre. It is imperative for UConn to match their intensity at the start. Or it could prove to be a long afternoon.
But if the Huskies play hard from the start , don't think for a minute they can't win. And the players to a man are happy to be here at the second straight bowl game. I don't think a lack of enthusiasm will be a problem for UConn.
I hope you are with us for the broadcast, the pre game begins at 10:30.
Thanks to Bob Joyce for doing yeoman duty tomorrow, the women @ 11:30 on 965 fm and then the men at 6:30 pm.
Oh yes, more snow today here in Toronto. But what a great city.
Enjoy!
