With apologies to Drew Carey and of course Bob Barker, the Price was right for UConn last night or the Huskies winning streak would have ended at 5. A.J. Price was brilliant in UConn's 89-83 XL Center win over Villanova.
It wasn't just his 29 points, 20 in the first half when he singlehandedly kept UConn in the game. It was the aggresive way that he played, the exuberance that he played with and the way he led the Huskies. It's A.J''s team and last night he established that fact. He isn't gonna score 20 per game but his leadership will be there every game.
Jerome Dyson had his best offensive game in weeks, Jeff Adrien was double-double steady and Craig Austrie played with ice water in his veins. Despite a 1-9 shooting night, it was Austrie who hit the key floater in the lane after Villanova got within 79-76. Typical Austrie.
Hasheem Thabeet's foul trouble didn't really hurt UConn last night but the biggest Husky can't committ some of the fouls which got him into trouble last night.
And big kudos to those of you in attendance. The crowd was great and the players thrive in that kind of environment.
It won't be that friendly on Saturday in South Bend where Notre Dame tries to win its 46th straight at the Joyce Center.
I'll preview that game on Saturday.
