VnICTORY AT THE 'VILLE

LOUISVILLE: Now THAT was impressive! UConn took apart Louisville in a fashion that not even the most ardent Huskies supporter could have expected. The 68-51 final score was indicative of just how good UConn performed in their first game as the #1 ranked team in the country.
The Cardinals brought lots of energy early, jumping out to a 14-9 lead. But them, the Huskies went on a 12-0 run to take the lead, and then a half ending 10-0 run to open up a 12 point halftime lead. The most impressive thing about the second half was Louisville never, ever, ever got within single digits. IN FACT, they never even had the ball with a chance to get within 9 or less. You would think at home, a team as good as Louisville would make a run. Not on this night, against this team.
Jeff Adrien took the game over in the first half with his 15 points. He gave his teammates confidence. The guards all took turns breaking the press and and running the offense. Craig Austrie didn't score a field goal... but didn't have to. It was another game where his poise and experience were invaluable.
And then there was Hasheen Thabeet. It wasn't the numbers that stood out, it was the way he patroled the inside and intimidated Louisville's big men.I said earlier this year he was a work in progress. That is still the case but tonite, Hash played like he knew he could dominate the inside.
Once again, just like the win at Notre Dame, the Huskies were pleased with the win but not shocked. And that is a really, really good sign for future success.
Up next Michigan on Saturday from Gampel. 5:30 for the pre game, and it will be followed immediately by the women's game at Marquette.
Jim Calhoun and Randy Edsall on Wednesday, Geno Auriemma on Thursday. All on SportsTalk!
